Joel Esher is songwriter, composer, arranger and teaching artist living in New York City. His Off-Broadway Martin Shkreli musical comedy PharmaBro received national attention and was nominated for an Off-Broadway Alliance award for best new musical. In 2022, Joel was a recipient of the Arizoni regional theater award for his original music in the Theater for Young Audience (TYA) play “The Clumsy Princess” (with Jessica Puller).

As of 2022, Joel is excited to be adding a new arm to his musical career in creating music for sync licensing. His music is currently in contract to be published through a major music library and he is actively creating pop instrumental albums that will soon be available for both exclusive and non-exclusive placements. He is currently available for custom jobs.

Joel is a 13-year veteran NYC-based teaching artist currently collaborating in ongoing partnerships with Trinity Wall Street, The Dreamyard Project, and The Little Orchestra Society.

Joel is a 15-year veteran of accompaniment and music direction for short form and long form improv, sketch comedy and musical improv, having worked for The Second City in Chicago, UCB in NYC, and toured with Baby Wants Candy, The Story Pirates, and other prestigious and hilarious companies across the country. Joel lives on New York City's Upper West Side with his wife, Kaitlin, and daughter, Thea. He graduated with a B.M. in Music Direction and Voice and Opera from Northwestern University with a Certificate of Performance in Musical Theater, graduated The Second City's Music Director Training Program. Member of the BMI-Advanced Musical Theater Writing Program.
